Orchard Road Closure

Thousands thronged yesterday Orchard Road in the last minute Christmas shopping, inflicting heavy casualties and huge traffic jams.

    Many shopping centers have said their Christmas sales rose by 20 percent per year over the period of the first half of this month. The Singapore Retailers Association, said consumer confidence has increased.

    Closed to facilitate the traffic, the streets in the Orchard Christmas and New Year. The following roads will be closed to 13.00 bis 01.00 clock Sunday:

    - Orchard Road (between Scotts Road and Bideford)

    - The road to Mount Elizabeth in the direction of Orchard Road (between the road and nutmeg Orchard Road)

    SBS will also extend the opening times and more trips on buses and trains. In addition to 220 trains that week for that month, recorded 96 rides on Christmas Eve in the North and South lines of the East-West. A total of 41 runs were added after the morning rush hour in the line of the Northeast....
