Oyster Stew Recipes

About 15 years ago, Sandy Elofson made oyster stew on Christmas Eve as an act of remembrance.

It was a way for women, Brandon and her husband, Dave, remember the family members - mother and grandparents, Sandy and Dave's parents - who make the oyster stew, as holiday tradition.

"They all died suddenly, and I really missed doing things with them, and we wanted to start our own traditions," said Elofson, 56
She does not believe that their children like oyster stew, but with the soup on Christmas Eve quickly become a family tradition. Now, their children, between 19 and 29, and daughter, aged, connected in the age of 21, in the production of the soup.

The recipe has changed little in recent years - have a soup with scallops, prawns and spring onions. The last time I had the soup, potatoes and celery. "It is very tasty," said Elofson.
Serve the soup and oyster stew and clam chowder for Christmas and New Year is a tradition for many families. This year, consider a soup to your holiday repertoire, or to renew a prescription for a healthy variant of a favorite.

You do not have to give up taste to eat healthy holiday favorite, "says Joanne Shearer, registered dietitian and nutrition director for Avera Heart Hospital." You can eat your cake and him with many recipes for the holidays, "he said.

Reduce fat and calories in soups and stews with skim milk or condensed milk and less butter or disposal. The Avera Heart Hospital made a corn soup and ham with skimmed milk and low-sodium chicken. Butter is found only in the red.
"It is a soup kitchen for us. ... The taste and the flour and the texture of the soup is very tasty and acceptable," said Shearer.

Since the use of giving less fat recipes, jazz up the soup with spicy taste, "said Shearer. Add cayenne pepper or red pepper soup, corn, or experience the use of Tabasco sauce and parsley.
Elofson used a recipe from an old cookbook from the New York Times that she had found at a flea market. It mostly for the recipe as a guide. "We have (ingredients) and spices. I jump like oysters to curve to brown edges, then put it in the pot. So my mother always did. I use half and half, before a doctor. ... It is very tasty. "And the family is a large amount, which is enough for leftovers.

Shearer found to be a recipe for oyster stew Emeril Lagasse and that is part of the course like a fast food burger beef.

"He was essentially Emeril's recipe and the recipe from Food Network, and would be acceptable," said Shearer.
Without the extra butter that are comparable in calories and fat serves as a main course. The soup has 225 calories and 16 grams of fat per serving, and a beef burger has 209 calories and 14 grams of fat.
