Total lunar eclipse tonight
Amateur astronomers are all night and watching the sky to see the sum of the Moon very early hours of Tuesday, December 21 eclipse.
The eclipse will be visible in the northern hemisphere, weather permitting, and will show its first signs at about 1:15 Eastern Time.
The moon will be completely obscured by the shadow of the Earth at 01:15 ET, while the entire event is expected to nearly three hours and 28 minutes from start to finish.
The total eclipse phase will begin about 2:41 Eastern Time and will last approximately 72 minutes.
It is the first total eclipse in 34 lunar months, and the restriction on cloud cover is potentially visible to 1.5 million.
