The Meriden-Wallingford National Association for the Advancement of Colored People branch announced it will launch an investigation into the Meriden Housing Authority.
The investigation comes after Resident Commissioner James White filed a complaint against the MHA according to a statement from the Meriden-Wallingford NAACP branch.
The NAACP said it is, "in discussions with another organization to join forces to ensure that fair housing practices remain in our community."
Local NAACP President Barabara W. Holloman said the investigation stems from White soon being evicted from Chamberlain Heights.
At a recent Maynard Road Corporation, the MHA's non-profit affiliate, meeting, commissioners discussed the possibility of relocating White to Mills Memorial apartments after his eviction. The relocation was to ensure White remains on the MHA board of commissioners.
White also has a pending lawsuit against the Chamberlain Heights Redevelopment Limited Partnership. White has alleged preferential treatment of certain tenants at Chamberlain Heights.
There is a hearing Friday for White's civil suit.
Holloman added that White is not the sole party the NAACP has heard from on the matter of preferential treatment and issues with MHA practices and policies. Holloman said she would be able to release further details about the investiation Wednesday afternoon.
