Jonathan Rhys Meyers

Jonathan Rhys Meyers, the Irish actor best known for his movies 'Bend it Like Beckham and 'Match Point', has been hospitalized after a suspected suicide attempt, according to the UK's Sun newspaper. Meyers was discovered slumped at his London home by paramedics on Tuesday (28th June 2011).
The actor is reported to have refused the help of medical staff for over 30 minutes, before paramedics were forced to call the police for his own safety. The 'Tudors' star was eventually taken away by ambulance to an undisclosed facility and eventually released on Wednesday. A spokesperson from Scotland Yard said, "Officers were called by London Ambulance Service following reports of a man refusing treatment. The man was taken to hospital". The actor, who is rumoured to have split from his long-time girlfriend Reena Hammer, has battled with alcohol problems for several years. He checked into rehabilitation shortly after the death of his mother in 2007 but just months afterwards was arrested at Dublin airport for being drunk and in breach of the peace.
Considered a talented character actor, Jonathan Rhys Meyers earned a Golden Globe for his portrayal of Elvis Presley in the biographical miniseries 'Elvis'. He also won acclaim as King Henry Viii in 'The Tudors'.
