A day before the cutoff lists for admissions to the current academic session of Delhi University were to be announced, a few colleges have already uploaded the cutoff lists on their official websites.
As had been predicted by experts and DU teachers alike, the cutoffs this year have seemed to hit an all time high.
As the pre-admission forms for admission to DU were scrapped by the university this year, principals of several DU colleges had predicted that colleges would announce cutoffs that will be much higher than previous years. This was because colleges had to rely on the class 12 results of this year and previous years' experience to decide the cutoff percentages for different courses.
Every student who meets the eligible cutoff for any course at a college cannot be denied admission. For this reason, colleges had decided to raise the cutoff bar so that no extra aspirants are admitted to any course.
At SRCC, the cutoff percentages for the general category for BA (Honors) Economics programme is as high as 98.25% and for OBC category, the cutoff percentage is 96.25%. For the B.Com (Honors) programme at SRCC, the cutoff for general category is 100% and for the OBC category is 98%.
The cutoff lists for other colleges such as Sri Venkateswara, Ram Jas, Zakir Hussein and Kirori Mal also have similar figures to reveal.
Colleges this year have decided to give weightage to certain combinations of subjects in class 12 fro specific courses. For example, certain colleges are giving a waiver of 5% in the cutoff for BA (honors) English courses for candidates who have studied Elective English in class 12.
Other colleges under the university are expected to announce their cutoffs by Wednesday. It had been predicted that with most colleges relying on guesswork to formulate the first cutoffs, the first list would be useless for most DU aspirants as the cutoff percentages would be too high.
Candidates who meet the criteria according to the first cutoff lists will be given four days to seek admission at the colleges. The second cutoff list will be announced by DU on June 21.
