Metal super group Metallica hasn’t released a full-blown album since 2008’s “Death Magnetic,” but a report says the band is composing new music with an unlikely partner.
Metallica and Lou Reed have collaborated on a 10-track studio album that marries the trash-metal band’s bombastic arrangements to Reed’s unique storytelling methods through song.
“A marriage made in heaven,” Reed tells Rolling Stone magazine in an exclusive interview. “I knew it from the first day we played together: ‘Oh, man, this is perfection, right in front of me.’”
“I don’t think we’ve ever felt this free,” Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich added. “There’s nothing that’s totally outside of the boundary for us, nothing that feels like ‘Oh, what happens if we go there?’ The strength of [Reed and Metallica] is it feels like we cannot land on a wrong place.”
While the album is “90 perfect finished,” according to Ulrich, there are no release plans at this time. “We are free to go wherever,” Ulrich says. “I’m obviously psyched for people to hear this, in whatever way we feel is right.”
