Natalie Portman |
Details were scarce on the baby -- notably, for example, his name -- but public interest remains high: his Mom and Dad were among the most-searched Google terms overnight and this morning.
Portman's official website posted an "It's a boy!" banner, oddly crediting the news about her first child to People magazine.People first posted the announcement Tuesday night.
Wag commenters immediately began suggesting that the couple name the baby Luke, a reference to Luke Skywalker, the fictional child that Portman bore while acting in the "Star Wars" sequels.
In December, Portman and Millepied announced both their engagement and that they were expecting a baby.
Portman, 30, was born in Jerusalem as Natalie Hershlag. Her father was a doctor, her mother, an artist.
Millepied, 34, was born in Bordeaux, France, and raised in Senegal. In addition to his choreography for "Black Swan," had a cameo role in the movie.
Portman, who studied at Harvard University, is one of the smartest, most independent thinkers in Hollywood. Here are some of her notable quotes, as compiled by imdb.com:
"I'm going to college. I don't care if it ruined my career. I'd rather be smart than a movie star."
"When I'm working they pretty much treat me like an adult, but then when there's a break everyone else goes to their trailers and drinks beer and I like, go to school."
"I'm ready to ditch the movies and keep at the books. There are so many other things, and it would feel limiting to say, 'Acting is it for me.'... I love psychology. That's what I'm studying right now. It would probably be difficult, because of my current occupation, to become a clinical psychologist, but I could certainly do research. And I'd like to have a family someday, too."
