| Singapore vs Newcastle |
It was goals galore at the opening match of the Canon Lion City Cup at the Jalan Besar Stadium on Saturday.
Host Singapore's Under-15 team played an exciting game, beating Newcastle's Under-15 side 4-3 in the first match of the 9-day competition.
Despite the humidity, the visitors took an early lead with James Atkinson scoring from a corner kick in the 4th minute.
Host Singapore, with some strong support in the stands, were quick to reply and levelled the score ten minutes later as Muhammad Zulfadhmi slotted in a goal from a rebound.
On the half-hour mark, Newcastle were up again as Adam Armstrong made it 2-1 for his team.
And the visitors rallied to a 3-1 lead in the second half, thanks to Alex Gilliead's effort.
But the match was far from over for the host.
In the dying minutes of play, Singapore's Azhar Ramli's low shot caught the Newcastle backline by surprise, as Singapore narrowed the gap.
And much to the delight of the home fans, Iqram Rifqi drove in the equaliser in stoppage time to end the match 3-3.
But the drama continued, as substitute Mohamed Faridzuan flicked in the winning goal for Singapore, just a minute from the final whistle.
The Singapore U-15 team next play the youth team from Italy's Juventus on Wednesday, while their U-16 counterparts are up against Brazil's Flamengo, who won their first game beating Everton 1-0. It was the second match for the opening night.
