Sachin Ferrari

City builder buys car from ‘pal’, drives it home from Mumbai

The red Ferrari 360 Modena that F1 legend Michael Schumacher presented to Sachin Tendulkar nine years ago will now vroom on the streets of Surat.

The car, which was at the centre of an ugly controversy over taxes, has been bought by city builder Jayesh Desai, who drove it himself from Sachin’s home in Bandra, Mumbai, to his renovated garage in Surat’s City Lights Society.

“It is a dream come true,” Desai said. “I was eager to have this Ferrari and put my request before Sachin a month ago. We are pals, and we often talk at length. He finally agreed to sell it to me.”

Obviously smitten by his new toy, Desai said “the firing of the car is so sweet that I can listen to it for hours”. He added that “it’s a valuable car, but it’s also a matter of pride to own it”.
Fiat announced the gift of the car to Sachin after he equalled Don Bradman’s record of 29 Test centuries in 2002. Schumacher, who then drove for the Ferrari F1 team, presented him the keys on the eve of the British GP in July 2002.
