The highly valued sports franchise Dallas Cowboys is all set to split their training camp time between home and San Antonio. The longest stoppage in NFL history is now over and the players are excited to go to the next phase and to begin training for their first preseason game. The team is preparing to leave for San Antonio on Wednesday, July 27, which will be a two week stay at the Alamodome. The first practice is set to kick off on Thursday and the opening press conference is scheduled on Wednesday at 3 p.m., where team owner Jerry Jones and head coach Jason Garrett are expected. The Cowboys entered a five year contract in 2007 to train in San Antonio with only one exception so far, where a scheduling conflict in 2008 resulted in a shift of training camp to Oxnard, California.
The practice timings for this practice season at San Antonio will be:
Walkthrough from 10 to 11 a.m.
Practice from 2.30 to 5.30 p.m.
There will be no walkthrough sessions on Sundays, July 31 and August 7.
This will be the first official on-field work for the team after January as the lockout prevented the players from entering the team headquarters which is situated in Valley Ranch in Irving, Texas. They were also unable to approach coaches, training and medical staff . However, a large number of players trained unofficially at different locations in Dallas during the lockdown.
Cowboys will return to Dallas on August 11 for a preseason opener on August 11 against the Broncos. As for the other teams, like the past years, all NFL teams will begin their training camp 15 days before the preseason game and the teams which have signed new coaches may be at a disadvantage with no organized workouts in the off season.
