Panasonic Corp. said Monday it will start field testing the use of solar power and lithium-ion batteries at a public residential building in Singapore to achieve efficient energy management.
The knowhow obtained from the project over the next two years will help the electronics giant to promote its energy management business in other Southeast Asian countries as well as in Japan, it said.
The project will be conducted at a housing complex in Punggol eco-town, where Panasonic will combine rooftop solar generation systems and batteries to create and store energy, it said.
The lithium-ion batteries will also serve as a backup energy source for such facilities as lighting and elevators in the event of a power outage, the company said.
Residents of each household there will be able to see how much electricity, water or gas is being used through a display that shows data on a smart meter gauging the power being consumed by appliances, it said.
