Everyone knows Tag Heuer time pieces for their appearance on the automotive racing circuit. So it’s no surprise that to celebrate the 100th anniversary of “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing,” they would produce an official watch of the Indy 500.
The limited edition watch is called the Indy 500 Centennial Chronograph. It boasts a grey stylized dial patterned after the famous “Yard of Bricks” start and finish line of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and a printed “Indy 500″ logo inside the counter.
The watch was inspired by a racecar’s dashboard, the 44 mm dial hosting three counters, a small second at 3 o’clock, a chronograph minutes counter with double hands at 9 o’clock and a 1/10th of a second counter at 6 o’clock. The date window is positioned at 12 o’clock and is flanked by hand-applied indexes, as well as luminescent hands and markers.
Only 100 watches are available and is offered at $1,650. The tribute to the world’s largest single-day spectator sporting event’s 100th anniversary will be presented to the winner of the Indy 500 later today.
TAG Heuer was founded in Saint-Imier in 1860 by Edouard Heuer and has set many major milestones of high-end watchmaking.
