BigFoot

In the Pacific Northwest, supposed Bigfoot sightings have been going on for centuries to the time well before white settlers first explored the area in the early 1800s. However, only with the invention of photography have the people making these extraordinary claims been able to offer any 'proof' of what they saw. Just this weekend, a video supposedly showing Bigfoot has become a web sensation after it was posted on Youtube.
So, what of the video itself?
Looking at the video, which is a mere 9 seconds long, it seems to center on two hikers just in front of the photographer as they make their way down a hill located in deep forest. As the hikers go, one sees something big and dark run across the top of the frame in the distance. As for the time that the supposed Bigfoot is on camera, that lasts for only a couple of seconds. As for the creature itself, it is located near the top part of the frame and, if the video was being shot in a landscape rather than portrait orientation, chances are that it would never have been recorded at all.
Now the big question: could it be real?
Throughout history, there have been numerous photo/video hoaxes, with Bigfoot being a common subject, with the famous Patterson Film being the most famous hoax. As far as legitimate videos that could be real go, they are few and far between. As for this new video, the unfortunate truth is that, unless the hikers in the video can go back to the site and bring back some physical evidence like hair or droppings, there is no way to prove anything at all. On the other hand, the video does have a certain spontaneity to it. After all, in most Bigfoot films, the creature is centered in the frame and then followed. This Bigfoot runs across the frame in a couple of seconds near the cut-off point at the top, which lends credence to the shooter's claim that the video is real and that she didn't even notice the creature at the time.
On the other hand, this could be a cleverly staged hoax, learning from mistakes of previous tricksters who made their films look just too orchestrated.
In the end, there is no way to know whether this is real or not short of physical evidence from the sight or a confession on the part of the shooter.
