Audi’s Electrifying R8 e-Tron

Gorgeous is the only way to describe Audi’s awesome R8 e-Tron electric supercar, and we don’t need much excuse to show it off. Especially when it’s wrapped in matte black aluminum and carbon fiber with subtle yellow highlights like this beauty Audi showed off at its tastefully Kubrickian booth at CES.

We got a tour of the outside, but the Audions wouldn’t let us film the inside. Trust us though. It’s gorgeous. And this car’s got some beast to go with the beauty: Audi claims it’ll do zero to 100 km/hr in 4.8 seconds, put down more than 300 horsepower and get around 150 miles per charge. It’s a quattro, too, with one motor for each wheel.

Audi plans to build a few hundred R8 e-Trons and sell them to select (well-heeled) buyers in 2012. So far, the only action it’s seen is on the track at Le Mans last May and some covert test spins.

But the car is pretty much finalized except for one detail: Like all electrics, it’s practically silent, and the engineers have yet to decide on an “appropriate noise profile.” We recommended installing some speakers behind the wheels and blasting Rammstein on a loop.
